Four years at Hoban have taught four lifetime lessons

May 12, 2010

The statement “high school flies by fast” has proven to be true. 24 days remain until graduation and the class of 2010 must prepare to say their goodbyes.

As a freshman and even as a sophomore, I thought graduation would never come. I thought it was a distant event and I had a long time before I had to say my goodbyes to a place that had become my home. But I was wrong. I have loved my time at Hoban and I hate that I will no longer be walking through these halls. It is strange to think I will no longer be a Hoban student, but instead a Hoban alumni.
As graduation draws closer, I have had the chance to think about how much I have learned over the past four years. I am no longer the quiet, shy girl I was my freshman year and I have learned a lot about myself. Through facing many challenges, I have become stronger. I now realize that I can face anything. The friendships will last a lifetime.
Four main lessons have shaped my time at Hoban.

Lesson One: Learning can be fun. Mr. Hottinger, Mr. Anderson, Mr. Kraus and Mrs. Bates have showed me that learning doesn’t have to be boring. In these classes I have danced, sang, let my imagination run wild, traveled on fun field trips and developed enthusiasm for history.

Lesson Two: My goal for the future is to be a journalist. Cindi Kinnan, T.K. Griffith and Paul Yappel have taught me elements about language arts, writing and journalism. I have learned that writing is a unique way to express yourself and that I am passionate about it.

Lesson Three: Friendships do not need to be limited to your grade. Being the girls’ soccer team trainer for two years has taught me to branch out from my class. They showed me that even younger peers can become some of the closest friends.

Lesson Four: When you open your heart, people will surprise you. Throughout the years and especially on Kairos, I have gotten to know my classmates and they have surprised me once the stereotypes were removed.

Memories last a lifetime and I have had the chance to make some of the best memories. I have had defining moments with my classmates in and out of school. We have become what Hoban is known for- a family. I know that I will always be able to count on the class of 2010 and I thank everyone who played a role in that.
