With school back in session, many students live for the weekend.  But with the rising cost of many common activities, financial problems occur.

“Because I make my own money, I’m more reluctant to spend it.”  Junior Elizabeth Denholm said.  Many students feel the same way as Denholm when it comes to spending the money they have worked so hard to earn.

Junior Sammi Heil faces the opposite problem.  “Because I make my own money I spend it more often.” Heil said.  Many students are looking for ways to save money but still have fun. With this dilemma in mind, Junior Sammi Heil offers this advice, “Watch a movie at home instead of going to the theater.” With movie tickets running well over $7.00, this is a great way to save a few dollars and to enjoy the movie in the comfort of your own home without the chatter of other movie patrons or the high cost of refreshments.

For students who still enjoy the movie theater experience Denholm recommends Highland Theater. “Go to Highland Theater for movies, tickets are only $5.00.” Other theaters such as Movies 10 in North Canton offer movie tickets at only $2.25 for Friday and Saturday evenings and only $1.50 every weekday evening.

Going out to eat at restaurants can be very expensive.  An average meal for two can cost about $20.00.  “When you go out in a big group, split meals.” Heil said to this common dilemma.

Denholm recommends looking for deals at local restaurants. “I know that some places like Big I’s Sushi have half off sushi nights.”

Instead of hanging out with your friends at a bowling alley or restaurant, Junior Jessica Beebe finds it fun just to hang out with her friends at home.  “Have a make your own pizza party or a bonfire.” Beebe said.

With so many options of things to do, many students can now have a good time without burning a hole in their wallets.
