Monopoly Revolution changes classic formula

It is round, has an ATM banking system, plays music clips and has plain translucent tokens. It’s Monopoly?

Hasbro unveiled a 75th anniversary edition of the classic, revolutionary board game known as Monopoly Revolution. The revolution proves true with numerous changes that will either invite new customers in or turn away classic players.

One new feature is the addition of an ATM banking system. Throwing out the old way of adding countless bills, new Monopoly “credit cards” will keep track of each player’s finances. Though it gets rid of the classic playing style that includes a banker, the flashy swipe cards could eliminate cheating by removing theft when the banker is not looking.

Another new characteristic of the updated classic is the new pieces used to navigate the board. The old tokens such as the familiar hat or ship are now plain images on clear, plastic pieces.

The final change could become the most hated of all modifications: the familiar square board has made the switch to a circular shape. The square property spaces are now sleek wedges and the ATM resides in the middle of the board. Along with the new shape come new prices. Every monetary aspect of the game is now multiplied by 10,000. For example, passing Go yields $2 million rather than the old measly $200.

Monopoly Revolution is expected to be released this fall 2010 and retail for approximately $34.99.
