Leaving a mark

Through out the year it’s easy to become trapped in the school cycle; eat, sleep, study, repeat. Student’s drift from class to class as each day seems to merge into one another and become one big blue and gold blur. To break free of the cycle students must learn that there is more to school then just in the texts books.

Hoban offers many academic clubs and activates that prove to be a great opportunity for students. Following in line with Hoban’s Slogan “educating the heart and the mind” transcending the school day starts when the 2:50 bell rings.

Hoban’s cornucopia of after school activates connects to people of all interests, making it hard to find an excuse not to get involved. Students who leave at the end of the day are missing a key part of their education, not only does it build a students résumé but also teaches key skills and abilities they can use in the future.

“Being involved in cheerleading has taught me to listen to everybody’s idea, and find a solution that makes everyone happy when we are creating a new routine” said freshmen cheerleader Leah Marino.

Not only do after school activates connect people, but the Hoban community. A few of Hoban’s clubs and programs make students work together in order to pull off a big project  for example a play or musical.

“Plays make the community better because it gives a lot of kids a chance to get involved in something” said drama club member Blake Gross.

High school students will find themselves walking across the staged, dressed in cap and gown before they will have a chance to leave a mark on their school. Down the road, students may look back into a yearbook and find no evidence of themselves. Only then regretting, being a student who left everyday at 2:50.
