All right class of 2013, it is almost here. A night that most of your parents never thought would come so fast. A night of unforgettable anxiety and excitement¬– homecoming. Being anxious is perfectly normal. Guys, it takes guts to ask a girl. Girls, getting the perfect dress at a reasonable price can be a stressful decision. However, measures can be taken so you can go to the dance without screaming I’m a freshman by doing something out of the ordinary.
First of all, putting a group together can be a confusing task. Simply talking to people and understanding everyone’s situation can make this process much more enjoyable and less stressful. Prior to the dance, groups can meet for dinner at their favorite restaurant or even at a friend’s house to eat and take pictures. Guys, if you do ask a girl, you get style points if you take care of her and pay for her night.
Transportation to and from the dance can also be a point of conflict. One option is renting a limousine. Group members can all pitch in to pay for transportation to and from a restaurant and/or the dance. A limousine can take you anywhere depending on how long you rented the service. Another option is simply allowing a parent or other trusted licensed driver to take the group to the dance.
While the majority of students wear dresses and suits, dressing for the occasion is still no easy task. Guys, a classic suit, dress shirt, tie and suit pants can never go wrong. Girls, dresses and heels are always likely to gain approval. If a guy asks a girl to attend the dance with him, he should match his tie with her dress. Girls, short dresses are the norm; however, both long and short dresses are acceptable. Long dresses are more formal while short dresses are more informal. Girls, stick with heels. Flip-flops are a no-go unless your date is shorter than you, in which case wear flats.
Let’s face it, girls like flowers. As far as corsages go, guys, keep it simple. Pretty and simple corsages are appreciated. Match the flower colors with her dress. Girls, regarding boutonnières, match flowers with his tie. Do not overindulge on eloquent flowers because, let’s face it, guys could care less about flowers. Also, hairstyles are always an area of worry. Either going to a hair stylist or doing it yourself is acceptable, as long as it looks good. Most guys cannot tell the difference between a professionally arranged hairstyle and one that you did in ten minutes in your home bathroom.
So freshmen, prepare yourselves for a night of fun memories and dancing because in eight days you will experience Homecoming 2009. As far as supervision, teachers chaperone the dance so you don’t have to worry about your parents showing up. An up-beat DJ and refreshing punch will add to a memorable dance. Pictures before the dance can be taken with you and your date or a group of people. As far as timeliness, students can arrive on time or fashionably late to make an entrance. So on the night of homecoming, be safe, enjoy yourselves and have the night of your life.
