Freshmen year Jules Libertin didn’t have many friends and contemplated returning to Green.  Now, Libertin is one of the most respected seniors in her class and the recently crowned 2009 Homecoming Queen.

“When I came to Hoban, I didn’t know anyone,” Libertin said.  “Becoming queen shows how much I have changed and how great my friends are.  I wouldn’t be who I am without them.”

Libertin has been recognized throughout her years at Hoban for athletics.  On Oct. 9, she was recognized for her personality, charm and level of respect-the attributes that truly matter.

“All of the girls on court are amazing,” Libertin said.  “They are all outgoing and pretty. I felt like I was the underdog in the situation.”

Her mother, Colette Libertin and brother Nick, who came home from medical school from Wright State in Dayton, escorted Libertin at the game.  It was the first time since the summer that he was home and the game was an opportunity for them to be together.

Since Libertin did not feel like she would win she was surprised when her name was called.

“I was very very shocked,” Libertin said. “I told my mom and Nick before that I wasn’t going to win.”

Being recognized for something that is outside of school and athletics is new to Libertin.

“I’ve never had a moment like that, it feels good,” Libertin said. “It’s a great memory and made senior year more special.  It added to the excitement of the dance and it was definitely the best.”

The class of 2010 recognized her for her humility and strength. In true Libertin fashion she felt the need to thank her follow classmates.

“I want to thank everyone who voted for me,” Libertin said. “I really didn’t think I would win.  I realize I couldn’t ask for a better class.”
