Freezing football games along with their super fans and pep rallies rule the school throughout the fall season. On the days of December 2 and 3 a smaller, less recognized–albeit equally talented–group of students have their moment in the spotlight.

The Fine Arts Festival is a testament to the hard work of both music students and visual arts students.

The Music Festival begins at 6:30 pm December 2 and features all participants in performance ensembles such as Gospel Choir along with students in instrumental classes such as beginning guitar and piano and, of course, the infamous steel drum band.

The talented steel drum band, which consists of 18 students, is so loved thanks to their beach-y, island sound and the memory of carefree summer that this sound conjures. This year the band will bring the sounds of the Disney classic The Little Mermaid to the stage of the Barry Gym. The steel drum band has worked hard on this and many other songs which they will perform at this year’s festival.

“Hoban’s music program is unique, you don’t see many other schools with a steel drum band,” Senior and steel drum band member Guiseppe Frisone said. “The Winter Festival shows off the talent of the students involved.”

And Frisone hit it right on the head, talent is something Hoban definitely does not lack.
