Dude, where’s my gym? At the tumultuous ending of winter sports and pre-season beginning of spring sports, student-athletes are asking this common question often. With seven sports and activities that require gym use, schedules are becoming more chaotic than ever.
Even with Hoban’s two gyms, they still are becoming overbooked from boys and girls basketball, intramural basketball, softball and baseball, cheerleading and lacrosse practices. With gyms being overbooked, some are forced to make the cafeteria into a make-shift gym.
“It’s difficult for us to get gym time for mounting – even when we get it, other sports try to take it, and now that track has taken over the cafeteria we hardly have anywhere to practice,” senior cheerleader Jen Kalbus said.
After having to fight for gym time athletic teams then must scramble after school to find coaches to figure out the schedule for the night.
“I think we should have a schedule set for sure so that coaches can make other plans if we can’t get the gym,” senior lacrosse midfielder Dom Anders said.
As the shifting of seasons continues, and the Ohio weather keeps raging, the chaos for the gyms will certainly continue.
