The end of the year is traditionally the time to take it easy and enjoy the little time left with friends. This year teachers have decided to not give seniors the opportunity to experience “senior slide.” The work load has increased as the year has come to an end.
Teachers have the students’ best interest in mind, but they need to realize that seniors no longer have the mentality to work as hard as possible. The senior research paper was assigned during 3rd quarter and many students tried to protest but the deadline was never changed. If the paper would have been assigned earlier in the year students would have been more motivated to write their best.
Math teachers are also not lightening up on the work load. Homework is assigned almost every night and tests have taken place on Mondays, which is unusual. Teachers feel that they need to cover as much as possible which is true, but this late in the year students remember what they have been taught only until the test or quiz.
Even though there are seven days left for seniors, test and quizzes are still being given in many classes including physics, math and English.
Tests are not the only assessments still being given. English teachers have also decided to have seniors write one last paper. Fortunately, it is on their free choice novel. But a paper is still a paper no matter what the topic is.
With little time left in the seniors’ Hoban experience, they deserve the privilege of a lighter load. They should allow seniors to enjoy the little time left.

Considering most things, yours is a nice, well supported contention.
How about some point / counter-point?
I wonder if your position would change if YOU were signing the tuition check and not someone else. I would have shared your position on “Senior Slide” during my time at Hoban. Now, I am not so sure it is the best opinion to hold.
The privilege is not in sliding out the door; it exists while walking those sacred hallways and coming out miles ahead of the competition. “Sliding by” is a life style, not a privilege.
The value is something your will realize once you understand the purpose behind the last quarter push. Hoban is a “No Slide Zone”, lucky you!
