Over this past weekend, the boys soccer team tangled with Norton High School and emerged victorious in a 6-1 victory. The senior night game featured goals scored by sophomore Andy Frick, juniors Evan Pannell and Kit Harris and seniors Joe Easton and Alec Droba.

“I liked it because I got to score my first goal,” Droba said.

The team also enjoyed the victory as they improved to a record of 9-1-3 and remains undefeated in North Coast League play. With the shadow of the playoffs looming, the team is relying on the experience it has gained through its tough opponents.

“We’ve played a very tough schedule so far, and we’ve performed quite well. Hopefully the tough games we have played will pay dividends down the stretch,” Droba said.

As the playoffs approach, the team also looks to its togetherness to gain success. Players constantly rave about the family atmosphere built before and during the season as a major key to its achievements.

“This is the one of the best years Hoban has ever had, we have the skill, depth, and most importantly the heart and team unity that can take us far,” Droba said. “If we keep playing for each other with heart, there is no there’s not a team that can beat us.”

Junior Robby Sheeks also feels the family atmosphere.

“We have the ability to win games as a team with efforts from each person on and off the field,” Sheeks said. “We have put forth so much effort to be where we are now that I can’t see our season ending anytime soon.”

The team plays again Wednesday at 5 P.M. as it travels to Mentor Lake Catholic for another NCL match-up.
