On Friday Oct. 9, the Hoban Knights football team faced off against 5-1 Elyria Catholic. The Panthers featured a high-powered offense but the Knights defense dominated in a 31-6 rout, yielding only 76 yards passing and 90 yards rushing.

The Knights offense also shined as they gained 100 yards passing and 352 yards rushing. Senior Laurence Wynn accounted for 188 yards though he did not even play for most of the second half due to a hamstring injury. Junior Xavier Ivory took over as running back after Wynn’s injury.

The Knights scoring kicked off in the second quarter as Dan Hinton had two quarterback sneaks that put Hoban up 14-0. Senior Zack Christensen added a field goal before half to extend the lead to 17-0.

In the third quarter, both the Panthers and the Knights scored with Hinton having another one-yard run, and Elyria Catholic had a 16-yard pass to score their only points of the game. The fourth quarter star was senior David Bott who stepped back into his role as quarterback and scored on a six-yard run for the final score of 31-6.

The Knights improved to 5-2 as the Panthers dropped to 5-2. Hoban takes on sixth ranked Mentor Lake Catholic at Mentor Stadium Saturday at 7:00 P.M. Saturday.
