The lights are out and the games are over, but the Knights are still on fire.

“Not only was it my senior year but also my favorite, most successful year and I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome,” senior soccer captain Mitch Jendrisak said.

While the boys were defeated by two lucky goals in a Saturday district final against Revere, they can hold their heads high after a monumental season.

“When you play a sport that is looked down upon, made fun of and laughed at, it’s tough to work hard and care,” senior captain Zach Christenson said. “My first two years at Hoban I didn’t even think that the students knew there was a soccer team at the school.”

The boys, who have put themselves on the map under the leadership of head coach John Irvine, ended their season with a more-than-impressive 14-2-3 record. Even more remarkable than their overall record is their undefeated record in the NCL league which made them the first boys soccer team in Hoban history win the coveted title.

With an impressive record, over 50 goals scored and only 11 allowed, and wins over rivals St. Vincent-St. Mary and Walsh, the boys finished 10th in the state for Division II.

Through the teams blood, sweat and tears, the passion has put forward yet another Hoban team that every student should take seriously.
