Four months of six AM workouts, three hours of swimming a day and 9,000 yard practices are finally paying off for the boys and girls swim teams. On last Wednesday the boys sealed their undefeated season with a huge win over Cloverleaf beating them 111-51, while the girls achieved their first win of the season winning 89-80. Sophomore Danny Renner broke his own records in the 200 and 500 free while Paul Davies broke the school record for the 200 Individual Medley.
“We have improved as a team greatly from our 5-4 record last year,” sophomore Logan Rogers said.
Achieving an undefeated season is a huge feat for a team with only three years of history and the boys hope to carry this winning attitude in to Sectionals tomorrow.
“We beat our biggest competition Elyria Catholic so I think we are prepared for sectionals,” sophomore Ryan Will said.
Moving in to the homestretch of the season, both teams are focused on sectionals and making it on to districts. With a huge move to Division I the girls find themselves in the big leagues with powerhouses like Firestone, Copley and Wadsworth.
“It’s a big move,” senior co-captain Lindsay Mayors said.
On Feb. 12 the boys will swim at sectionals at Akron University natatorium while the girls will swim on Feb. 13. Both teams have one goal in mind.
“We hope that a good number of us will advance to districts,” sophomore Danny Renner said.
