Intramural basketball is based on three vital factors: a solid dynasty, finding the balance of having fun and leaving everything on the court and really cool t-shirts. Hoban basketball ended with the boys and girls playoff losses, but was revived by the intramural tournament. There is a freshmen/sophomore tournament as well as a junior/senior one at the end of the intramural season.

Freshmen and sophomore year are the building years where the dynasties are formed. It is junior and senior year that intramurals transcends recreational basketball and becomes a battle for eternal greatness. The freshmen and sophomore tournament ended with the sophomore Thunder Cats pouncing to their first intramural championship.
Each of the 14 junior and senior teams took the court with ambitions of a championship.

“We have worked hard and really deserve this championship,” senior Meat Wagon guard David Bott said.

Crouching Buffalo, Razzle Dazzle, Underdogs, Grapes of Wrath and the Pretty Pretty Princesses were subdued in the first round by senior powerhouses like Tune Squad, Victorious Secret and the dynasty that is Meat Wagon. Meat Wagon won the title two years before and was favored in the tournament. However, on Saturday, March 3, they were upset by Victorious Secret.

On the following Saturday, Tune Squad, led by senior Scott Krinsky, gave Victorious Secret a wedgie to end their championship hopes.
“I’ve scouted every team and no one can take over a game like Scott can,” coach of the year Ryland Parnell said.

“I fully expected Tune Squad to beat Victorious Secret,” Bott said. “I believe the Meat Wagon team would have given Tune Squad a good game because they’re a far superior team.”
