Young and experienced. That may seem like a paradox, but for the Hoban boys baseball team, it decribes them perfectly.
Following up a 13-13 record, an 8-5 record in the NCL last season and a 8-0 record already this year at printing time, the boy’s baseball team looks to make some noise in the NCL this season.
“I’m really excited for the season this year,” senior Tim Beech said. “We have a lot of young talent coupled with a lot of experience and that will help us to be successful.”
Although the games are played in the late spring and the summer, the baseball mindset lasts year round.
“We’ve worked harder than ever before this year to get ready for the season,” Beech said. “All the nature runs, all the sprints and all the suicides we’ve run have brought us together as a team. We all know the name on the front of the jersey means a lot more than what’s on the back.”
Within that statement lies the epitome of what Hoban baseball is all about: hardworking kids who just love to play the game.
“I’ve played baseball all four years I’ve been at Hoban,” senior Scott Krinsky said. “I don’t play a fall sport, so I spend the whole year looking forward to the season. When it comes I get pretty excited to play.”
That mindset has paid off with big wins over Cuyahoga Falls and rival St. Vincent-St. Mary already this year.
After a hot start the baseball team hopes to keep the momentum up when they play a doubleheader at Tallmadge on Saturday
